Sharpen your emergency skills at Emergency Veterinary Hospital as a student extern
Externs work directly alongside our emergency doctors and specialty clinicians in an AAHA-accredited facility, Externs participate in triage, diagnostics, treatment planning, procedures, and patient monitoring in a fast-paced environment. You will gain real-world experience managing urgent and complex cases from the moment they walk in the door. Our hospital sees an average of 35 patients per day and upwards of 60 patients per day on the weekend, making us an excellent place to gain extensive experience not only with cats and dogs, but with exotic species as well.
What Students Can Expect
- Active participation in patient workups for simple to complex cases such as Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Congestive Heart Failure, Urinary obstructions with AKI, etc.
- Exposure to advanced diagnostics such (bronchoscopy, endoscopy, and CT) and equipment (electrocautery, vessel sealer)
- Hands-on surgical experience with procedures such as abdominal exploratory surgery, cystotomy, splenectomy, limb amputation, wound repair, intestinal resection and anastomosis, etc.
- Specialty service exposure including Oncology and Exotic Animal Medicine

Requirements
Seeking a third or fourth year veterinary student interested in small animal emergency medicine.
